A visual or written representation of the steps, decisions, people, and systems in a workflow.

A process map reveals loops, delays, duplicate entry, and unclear ownership. Map the current state first, then design a future state with fewer unnecessary handoffs. A capacity audit can use the map to estimate where time is lost and which change to test first.
