# vendor due diligence

The review of a provider’s capability, controls, terms, and fit before the firm relies on it.

Review who can access data, how work is supervised, what happens at termination, and how incidents are reported. Record the decision and revisit it when the service changes. ABA Formal Opinion 512 says lawyers should understand the terms and policies of generative AI tools they use.
